Dr. H. Ray England

Pastor, Second Baptist Church

 

Bro. Ray was born and raised in Campbellsville. Kentucky.  He is married to Leslie Lalosh England, a native of Cincinnati.  They met at Campbellsville College.  Leslie has degrees from Campbellsville College, Georgetown College, and Eastern Kentucky University and has studied at Murray State University and Southern Seminary.  She has been a substitute teacher, missionary, and public school teacher.  Currently she is an elementary teacher.  They have three daughters:  Mary Beth, Jennifer, and Stoya.  Leslie works with the drama and pageant ministry of the church.

Dr. England graduated with a B.A. in Religion from Campbellsville College and with a Masters in Divinity and a Ph.D. in New Testament from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville.   His thesis was Divorce and Remarriage in 1 Corinthians 7:10-17.  Dr. England has also studied at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati.  Dr. England was among the early ones certified in MasterLife and Continuing Witness Training, and is now certified in the more recent evangelism program, The Net.

Bro. Ray has been pastor of Second Baptist Church, Greenville since December 1999.

He has served three other pastorates in Kentucky, has been on staff as an Associate Pastor in Administration and Education, and has served as a foreign missionary in the Philippines.   While a missionary, Dr. England served as Professor of Greek and New Testament Studies at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary and as graduate program site director for the Asia Baptist Theological Seminary.  Throughout his ministry he has served as an adjunct professor teaching Biblical Studies and pastoral ministries, first through seminary extension and Boyce Bible School extension and more recently for Campbellsville University.

A student of church growth for many years, Bro. Ray is committed to approaching church growth from a holistic, “purpose driven” approach.  Bro. Ray has led Second Baptist to reach our community through contemporary worship, personal evangelism, and creative ministries.  Currently Second Baptist is in ministry building time to use new facilities for reaching our community.   Bro. Ray’s passion is to reach the unreached, to bring new people into fellowship with God, and to help each of us grow in Christ.

 

Bob Thurman

Associate Pastor, Second Baptist Church

 

Bro. Bob was born and raised in Southeast Missouri.  His wife, Karen, was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.  Karen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Southeast Missouri State University.  Karen is the director or our church Pre-kindergarten program.  Bob and Karen have two sons, Tyler and Stephen. 

Bro. Bob graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bible and Behavioral Science.  He holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education form the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. 

Bro. Bob came to Second Baptist Church in August of 1995.  Prior to coming to Greenville, he served churches in Tennessee and Missouri. 

Bro. Bob oversees all of the educational ministries of the church.  He also works with children, senior adults, various ministry teams, as well as assisting Bro. Ray with pastoral care and administration.

 

Brian Schindler

Minister of Music and Youth Pastor

Bro. Brian was born in Mansfield, OH and grew up in Pikeville, KY. He is married to Melissa, who was born in Lexington, KY and raised in Richmond, KY.  Melissa graduated Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  Melissa works full time as mother to their two young children Caroline and Michael.  She also teaches a Sunday School class, and sings in the church choir.

Bro. Brian graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Music Education. In 2000, he graduated from Southern Seminary receiving a Master of Arts in Christian Education with an emphasis on Youth Ministry.

Bro. Brian has been serving at Second Baptist since 2001.  Prior to coming to Greenville, he served churches in Pikeville and Richmond.

Serving as the Minister of Music Bro. Brian overseas the adult choir, children's choir, praise teams, and worship services.  As the Youth Pastor Bro. Brian desires to see a purpose driven youth ministry.  The ministry is perusing this goal through a Wednesday night program, special youth events, and by equipping student leadership teams with skills that enable them to have a hand in the ministry process.

 

Josh Smith

Minister of Children, Recreation, and Activities


Bro. Josh grew up in Muhlenberg County where he spent his formative years at Second Baptist until he graduated from Muhlenberg North High School in 1999. In 2004, he graduated from Murray State University with a B.S. in Organizational Communication. It was during his time at Murray State that the Lord called Bro. Josh to serve in full-time Christian Ministry.

Bro. Josh is currently pursuing his Master’s of Divinity degree in the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism, and Church Growth at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

In 2007, the Lord called Bro. Josh back home to Second Baptist to serve as our Minister of Children, Recreation, and Activities.

As the Children’s Minister, Josh’s passion is that the Lord can use him to help build a solid Christian foundation in the lives of our children here at Second Baptist. He desires the Children’s ministry, along with the recreation ministry, to be a family oriented ministry. His vision is that the inclusion of families and the strengthening of that bond is one of the key essential to the raising of our Christian leaders of tomorrow.
